Peacock Crystal - tabletop terrain

This is a detailed, exotic piece of terrain that'd be perfect in science fiction or fantasy settings. A very organic, natural feel even though it was created using fractal math. 
Chunky crystals morph into swirling patterns. Is this a rock or a fungus? Or maybe a fossil?
